An Explanation of ATOL
ATOL protects you from losing your money or being stranded abroad. It does this by carrying out checks on the tour operators and travel organisers it licenses and requiring a financial guarantee called a bond, which is lodged with us.If a tour operator goes out of business, the CAA will make a refund to you, or if you're abroad, we'll arrange for you to finish your holiday and fly home.
ATOL: Total Protection for your Holiday
The CAA checks out companies and protects people from losing money or being stranded abroad if their tour operator goes bankrupt. If you book your holiday with an ATOL travel firm, you will be fully protected, because the company is responsible for all components of the holiday. If there is a problem either before you go or while you're abroad - they will sort it out for you.As DIY holidays aren't protected by the ATOL scheme, think about:
Booking with a Credit Card: But beware - you still might not be covered. You must spend at least £100 on each element of your holiday. There is no protection for payments made on Debit Cards.
Taking out Travel Insurance: Find a policy which covers against insolvency BUT, always check the small print, as many policies do not include this cover.
